Undercover journalist shines a light on unsafe working conditions for cleaners
Report highlights the unethical and unsafe working conditions that some agency cleaning staff endure in Ireland.
The cleaners in the article, including undercover journalist, Saša Uhlová, (staff writer at the Czech online daily Deník Alarm), were recruited from overseas through an agency to work in an Irish hotel.
Saša writes of working 11-hour days with no breaks, unreasonable workloads and stress, while being paid less than the minimum wage, with no contract or PPS number. During the course of her investigation, she injures her shoulder while lifting heavy mattresses.
As an advocate for safe working conditions for all workers, we are disappointed to see these working conditions happening in Irish hotels.
