Hit and run incidents on the rise on Irish roads
Almost 10% of serious crashes in Ireland over a two-month period were hit and runs.
Statistics from Journal.ie reveal that of the 177 serious or fatal collisions from 1st November 2024 to 6th January 2025, 16 of these were hit and run incidents
Paul Tracey, who specialises in helping victims of road traffic accidents said of the statistics:
“It is quite disturbing to see the number of hit and run incidents on the rise in Ireland. In our firm we have helped numerous clients over the years who have been injured from hit and run accidents, so we see first-hand the devastating impact they have on people’s lives.”
“As well as the injuries, there’s always a sense of injustice in someone not facing up to the consequences of what they have done, and this can leave an additional mental trauma on victims,” he said.
Paul urged those who are involved in road accidents to always remain at the scene.
“In particular, if your mistake has caused a collision, take responsibility, and never leave the scene of an accident. The consequences of a hit and run are much higher, for everyone involved.”
