Drive safely this bank holiday weekend
Road Safety Authority to run radio take-over campaign reminding road users of driving risks.
As we approach the October Bank Holiday, we would like to remind motorists to drive safely this weekend.
With heavier traffic and increased travel, the risk of accidents rises during long weekends. Unfortunately, road safety in Ireland continues to be a major concern. As of 24 October 2024, there have tragically been 143 fatalities on Irish roads.
To help prevent further accidents, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) is partnering with Irish radio stations for a nationwide awareness campaign from 23-28 October 2024. The campaign will speak to motorists directly about dangerous driver behaviours.
The partnership aims to target all motorists while driving, whether listening to the radio or podcasts.
There will be promos voiced by radio presenters across radio stations providing messages on the risks of driving while using the phone or under influence of drink and drugs.
On Newstalk the take-over will focus on distracted driving, specifically mobile phones and driving. On Today FM, 98 FM, Beat, Classic Hits, I-Radio, Spin 1038/Southwest, Red FM, Audio X and the Go Live network, the messages will focus on drink and drug driving.
So, as you prepare for the bank holiday, please remember to stay focused and alert while driving, avoid risky behaviours, and drive safely. Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and, above all, allow extra time to reach your destination to avoid rushing. Let’s all work together to make the roads safer for everyone this bank holiday.
